Northern State University’s athletic teams boast a long and proud tradition of competition in the Upper Midwest. The Wolves have garnered national attention throughout the years, including eight individual national champions, two national championship teams and numerous All-America athletes.

Northern State University sponsors 15 intercollegiate sports and belongs to the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC).

"I am so glad that God led me to NSU. Being from Oregon, I never would have imagined Aberdeen, South Dakota to be where I would end up for college. However, God had other plans for me. I had the most amazing experience there and the number one reason was because of the soccer coach I had at Northern (Steve Kehm) and the amazing culture he created. I was a part of a family. It was something I had never experienced before. If you aren't from the Midwest, you have no idea how special small communities can be. Aberdeen is a place that our family goes back to annually. We love it so much and the people are so special. You simply can't get friendliness and community like you do in Aberdeen. The small class sizes were the perfect fit for me. You feel like the staff truly care about you and want you to succeed. My husband and myself both taught and coached in the Aberdeen School District and we felt so thankful and blessed to be a part of such an amazing school district. We still miss it to this day. We will forever be grateful and thankful for our amazing time at NSU. Being on the soccer and football teams were such special times that we still treasure today. We have take what we have learned on our teams to our current lives today. This picture is of an alumni 4v4 tournament. One of my most favorite experiences at NSU. We love to give back to a place where it all started. Go NSU!"
